Xarelto contains Rivaroxaban, an oral anticoagulant that works by inhibiting Factor Xa, a key component in the blood clotting process. It is used to prevent and treat blood clots in conditions such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). Xarelto also reduces the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation.
Dosage (Adults)
Treatment of DVT & PE:
15 mg twice daily with food for the first 21 days.
After this, usually switched to 20 mg once daily.
Prevention of recurrent DVT/PE: 20 mg once daily (maintenance).
Stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation: 20 mg once daily with food (dose may be reduced to 15 mg daily in patients with kidney impairment).
> Dose must be individualized by a doctor based on the indication and kidney function.
