Hepatitis B Immunoglobulin (HBIG) is a sterile solution of human antibodies that provides immediate, short-term protection against hepatitis B infection. It is used for post-exposure prophylaxis in individuals who have been exposed to the hepatitis B virus (HBV), such as through needle-stick injuries, sexual exposure, or contact with contaminated blood. It is also given to newborns of hepatitis B-positive mothers alongside the hepatitis B vaccine to prevent transmission.
