Aldara Cream contains Imiquimod 5%, an immune response modifier used to treat certain skin conditions caused by abnormal cell growth or viral infection. It works by stimulating the body’s immune system to release natural defense chemicals that fight abnormal or virus-infected skin cells. Aldara is commonly prescribed for actinic keratosis (precancerous skin lesions), superficial basal cell carcinoma, and external genital/perianal warts (caused by HPV).
Dosage (Adults)
Actinic keratosis: Apply thinly to affected area 2 times per week before bedtime, leave for 8 hours, then wash off. Continue up to 16 weeks.
Superficial basal cell carcinoma: Apply thinly to lesion 5 times per week before bedtime for 6 weeks.
External genital/perianal warts: Apply thinly to wart area 3 times per week before bedtime for up to 16 weeks.
