Caspofungin acetate is an echinocandin antifungal medicine used for serious fungal infections. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of β-(1,3)-D-glucan, an essential component of fungal cell walls—leading to the death of susceptible fungi.

Indications / Uses


Invasive candidiasis (including candidemia)

Esophageal candidiasis

Empirical therapy for presumed fungal infections in febrile, neutropenic patients

Invasive aspergillosis (in patients intolerant of or refractory to other treatments)

Dosage & Administration (as directed by a healthcare professional)

Typical adult dose: Loading dose 70 mg IV on Day 1, then 50 mg IV once daily.

Pediatric dose: As prescribed by the physician based on body surface area.

Administer intravenously over ~1 hour after reconstitution and dilution.

Not for bolus injection.

Precautions & Warnings


Contraindication: Known hypersensitivity to caspofungin or any component of the formulation.

Caution: Liver impairment may require dose adjustment.

Monitor liver enzymes during therapy.

Possible Side Effects

Cyclosporine may increase liver enzyme elevations.

Rifampin and some enzyme inducers can lower caspofungin levels—dose adjustment may be needed.
